About the "Stay All Day!" project

My name is Olivia Brohard. I am 17 years old, and I am a member of American Heritage Girls Troop OH1031. I am in the process of earning my Stars and Stripes Award, which is AHG’s highest level of recognition.

I am leading a project within the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium, to install an adult-sized changing table in the family restroom at Adventure Cove. The facilities will be decorated with "Handimal" tiles using the handprints of children and adults living with disabilities in the local community.

My brother Abram was 12 when he passed away on April 13, 2019. He lived with profound Cerebral Palsy, and needed maximum assistance with all activities of daily living. His most favorite place to visit was Discovery Reef at the zoo. As members, our family visited the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium several times a month, but we always had to cut our visits short due to the lack of an adult-sized changing table in the restroom.

The restroom modification I am undertaking will address an important need in the disabled community. Now, other people living with more involved toileting needs (like Abram) will be able to visit the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and "Stay All Day!"

This project will allow families like ours to fully explore the zoo, and enable everyone to spend a full day connecting with wildlife.
